Sinhala & Tamil New Year 2027 — Avurudu Nakath
The Sinhala and Tamil New Year (Aluth Avurudda) dawns when the Sun moves from Pisces (Meena) into Aries (Mesha). In 2027 that moment falls on Wednesday 14 April 2027 at 15:28 Sri Lanka time.
During the Punya kalaya people traditionally set aside all work and spend the time on religious activities — visiting the temple, meditation and good deeds.
Other auspicious times (Nekath Seettuwa)

How these times are calculated
The dawn is the exact moment the Sun enters sidereal Aries (Lahiri ayanamsha, Swiss Ephemeris), shown in Sri Lanka time; the Punya kalaya runs 6 hours 24 minutes either side of it. Using the same method, our calculation reproduces the official 2026 Nekath Seettuwa exactly (dawn 14 April 2026, 09:32; Punya kalaya 03:08–15:56).
